Answers: Are freelancers considered self-employed in getting a Tax Identificatio

Thank author of this post/commentI'm a part-time translator, and to get my check from a certain company I need to get a TIN. I'm not sure if I fall under self-employed or employee. [According to a certain source, employees get benefits like SSS so technically I wouldn't be one...]

Yes. Freelancers are exactly self-employed. And self-employment distinction is significant for tax purposes. You might belong to a group of people working for a sole owner of a business enterprise still you are entitled to get you tax identification as self-employed. even independent contractors belong in this group. But the best thing to do is to visit the office of the Bureau of Internal Revenue to precisely lay down your inquiry.

Thank author of this post/comment"BIR doesn't help much. :-/"

Thanks for the info. When I filed for my TIN as a freelancer, I had to go back and forth for 5 days because no one knew under which category I fall under. Eventually, I filed my TIN under form 1901 (if I remember correctly).
